New Photography Journey

For about six years I spent much of my professional life learning how to be a photographer. I started by learning the subtle art of editing photos. Spending hours on end color matching, correcting exposure, and focusing on any little detail to make the image just right. After spending some time editing images I moved on to capturing them. I read the light in front of me and set out to capture the story unfolding in front of me.

After six years, some life events led me down a different professional path. I ran my own handyman business and spent some time learning HVAC. During this time in the trades, I realized that a true calling of mine is to teach. I received tremendous energy from learning something new and then passing on that knowledge to someone else. I signed up for my substitute teaching license and over the last year, I have been having a blast teaching. Another discovery I made was that I love to be creative and make art. While I worked in construction, I found that I loved the craftsman side of the trades. Taking my time and exploring the finer details of a project and the process of making something new was fulfilling. I began to look for ways to explore this part of myself further.

Towards the latter part of this year, I began to talk to my girlfriend about wanting to start a business again. She saw the photographs I had taken from my previous work and asked why not start a photography business. She knew I loved to be creative and thought I had a good artistic eye. This encouraged me, and I’m so grateful for her. Based on our discussion, I decided to pursue photography once again.

As I embark on this new journey again, I’m filled with new optimism. The lessons I learned from the past two years have sharpened my eyes and mindset. I can’t wait to meet new people and capture what makes my clients unique.

I wish you the best of luck and success this new year. I would love to take your photograph or hear what you’re looking forward to this year.

Sincerely,

Michael Torres.
